Delaware's small size is actually one of its greatest assets for road trippers — you can experience the best of the state in a long weekend without ever feeling rushed. The Delaware beaches are among the most beloved on the entire East Coast, with a loyal following of Mid-Atlantic vacationers who return year after year. Cape Henlopen State Park is one of the finest state parks in the region. And the Brandywine Valley in northern Delaware has world-class museums, gardens, and the legacy of the du Pont family woven into its beautiful landscape.

Rehoboth Beach has numerous pet-friendly hotels and vacation rentals, particularly in the off-season. Lewes has charming boutique inns that welcome dogs. Wilmington in the Brandywine Valley has several pet-friendly hotel options for exploring the northern part of the state.

🌲 Dog-Friendly Parks & Trails
Cape Henlopen State Park welcomes leashed dogs on most trails and has a dog-friendly beach area — one of the best state park beach experiences on the East Coast. Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge has dog-friendly trails through coastal marshes and forests. Brandywine Creek State Park near Wilmington has beautiful dog-friendly trails through the Piedmont landscape.

Start in Wilmington (Brandywine Valley) → south to Lewes & Cape Henlopen → west to Milton (Dogfish Head) → east to Rehoboth Beach. Delaware is small enough to cover thoroughly in 2–3 days.

- Rehoboth Beach has seasonal pet restrictions — dogs are generally welcome on the beach before 9am and after 5pm in summer.
- Delaware has no sales tax — great for shopping for dog gear and supplies.
- Dogfish Head's brewery in Milton offers tours — check their website for dog-friendly tour options.
- The Delaware beaches are significantly less crowded than the Jersey Shore or Ocean City — a more relaxed experience for dogs and their people.
