From the historic streets of St. Augustine to the laid-back Keys and the dog-loving culture of Amelia Island, Florida rewards the road tripper with pups at every turn.

Florida's year-round warm weather, hundreds of miles of coastline, and deeply ingrained outdoor culture make it a natural paradise for dogs. The state has more dog-friendly beaches, parks, and patios per capita than almost anywhere in the Southeast — and the variety of landscapes, from the Panhandle's sugar-white beaches to the subtropical Keys, is extraordinary.
🏨 Pet-Friendly Hotels & Stays
Kimpton properties in Miami and Tampa offer zero-pet-fee stays in prime urban locations. Amelia Island Plantation and several boutique properties on 30A welcome dogs. The Florida Keys have numerous pet-friendly vacation rentals and small inns ideal for road-tripping with your pup.
🍽️ Pet-Friendly Restaurants & Cafés
Florida's outdoor dining culture means dogs are welcome on patios across the state. St. Augustine's historic district has several dog-friendly spots. Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island is particularly welcoming. In the Keys, casual waterfront restaurants routinely welcome leashed dogs.

Florida's craft beer scene has exploded in recent years. Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Funky Buddha in Oakland Park, and Intuition Ale Works in Jacksonville all have dog-friendly outdoor spaces.
🌲 Dog-Friendly Parks & Trails
Fort De Soto Park near St. Petersburg has one of the best dog beaches in the entire country — a dedicated off-leash beach area that's a must-visit. Amelia Island State Park welcomes leashed dogs on the beach. The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail is a stunning dog-friendly cycling and walking path through the Keys.
🗺️ Suggested Road Trip Route
Start in Amelia Island → south to St. Augustine → west to Tampa & St. Petersburg (Fort De Soto) → south through Naples → finish in the Florida Keys. Best enjoyed over 7–10 days.
🐶 Pro Tips
- Florida summers are brutally hot — visit October through April for the most comfortable dog-friendly experience.
- Many Florida beaches have leash rules and seasonal restrictions — always check before you go.
- Fort De Soto's dog beach is extremely popular — arrive early on weekends.
- The Keys can be very crowded in winter — book accommodations well in advance.
